Although Arizona Sunshine was the first Windows Mixed Reality VR game we covered, the first game listed on the “Games & Entertainment” poster is actually a game called ARK Park, which you can watch the first trailer for above. This is a spin-off from ARK: Survival Evolved but is being made by a different developer, Snail Games’ Peacock Studio. The game is a fully motion-controlled adventure game set in a big theme park on the mysterious ARK island which is full of over 100 dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. So basically a lot like Jurassic Park, or even more so Jurassic World judging by the trailers.
The game starts off quite educationally with the player learning about the various dinosaurs in ARK Park at the visitors center via life-sized holograms. Then players can explore the rest of the park on foot, in vehicles and even ride certain dinosaurs across a range of different environments such as swamps, forests, deserts and snowy mountain ranges to search for and interact with all kinds of dinosaurs and other creatures, plus solve puzzles. You can watch an early demo of this gameplay in action below, which is presented in the best way to showcase what the experience of VR is actually like to the player wearing the HMD by showing it surrounding the player rather than just showing the standard first-person view on a flat screen.
Just like in Jurassic Park/Jurassic World however, things eventually start to go wrong and it’s time to pull out the artillery to defend against rampaging dinos! These parts of the game do seem to just take place from single positions, rather than being full-on free-roaming FPS sections though. You can read a little more about this in the following news post from ARK Park’s official website and watch it in action in the latest trailer below that:
Action Packed Trailer Revealed
We recently debuted a brand new action-packed trailer and screenshots for ARK Park, the anticipated VR experience, based on the ARK: Survival Evolved franchise at China Joy, Asia’s largest gaming exhibition. Snail Games Tianqi Wu, Vice President and Guohan Tang, Art Director of ARK Park took the stage at NVIDIA’s press conference to discuss the game’s creative concept and development process, utilizing NVIDIA’s unparalleled technology. ARK Park pushes the limits to create a one-of-a-kind immersive experience through high definition texture mapping, NVIDIA’s MultiRes technology and the Ambisonics technology by Wwise. The game is now fully optimized to run smoothly using GTX 960 graphics and above.
The new trailer revealed a first look of the tower defense combat system in ARK Park. After players collect enough resources, unlock engrams and forge their weapons, they can head out to defend the attacks of raging dinosaurs. Players enter the world, first arriving at the Space Station, where they will customize their avatar and choose between single and multi-player experiences. They’ll participate in a multiplayer tour, so they can share the visceral gameplay and the thrill of witnessing dinosaurs up-close and personal.
An extension of the ARK: Survival Evolved franchise, ARK Park takes players on a pre-historic journey where they can battle, play with, tame and learn about more than 100 creatures from the ancient era. ARK Park aims to be the most true to life realization of a virtual reality attraction, filled to the brim with fascinating Jurassic creatures and adrenaline pumping gameplay. ARK Park will launch in Q4 2017.
You can read even more details about ARK Park in the following press release, but bear in mind this was issued long before the Windows MR “Games & Entertainment” poster was released and the shooting parts of the game revealed so there’s no mention of either:

More than 100 Creatures from the Popular Dino-themed Survival Adventure Will Arrive in Stunning VR Within Upcoming New Title
SANTA MONICA, CA – December 15, 2016 – Snail Games today unveiled further details on ARK Park, a vivid new virtual reality experience that will let players explore and encounter more than 100 creatures from the Jurassic era. ARK Park, which showcases dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures from the world of ARK: Survival Evolved, will be available in 2017 on the three leading VR platforms: HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation™VR.
Studio Wildcard, the developers of ARK: Survival Evolved, will be creative consultants on this upcoming VR title, with Snail’s Peacock Studio directing the project. ARK stalwarts will have their skill and cunning in taming primeval creatures rewarded in this new game, as they can import their own collected dinosaurs from the original survival game into a up-close and personal, full VR experience!
Players begin their ARK Park adventure at a visitor center surrounded by life-sized holographic dinosaurs where they’ll learn about these creatures that they’ve only read about & seen in books and summer blockbusters. From there, players will have the option to explore multiple interactive attractions on-foot or in vehicles & on Dino-back, including a swamp, forest, desert, snowy mountain range, and more. Each attraction features stunningly rendered and realistic environments of the period inhabited by ARK creatures, which can be found and captured through use of items, weapons, and puzzle-solving.
Snail Games recently announced a partnership with Studio Wildcard to license the IP for ARK: Survival Evolved, the popular open-world dinosaur survival game, for a VR experience. ARK Park will be available on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and PlayStation™VR in 2017.
