Another prominent SteamVR game updated with official Windows Mixed Reality support over Christmas is the robot bounty hunter FPS Gunheart. You can watch a trailer for the game above. Gunheart is the debut game of the new independent VR developer Drifter Entertainment, which is comprised of industry veterans who worked on major franchises such as Halo and Gears Of War! So even though Gunheart is technically an “indie game” it looks a lot more impressive and polished than most.

You can read more about Gunheart’s recent update below, along with more info about the game from its description on its Steam page beneath that:

Windows MR support + Hotfix + Weekly mission!

Happy holidays everyone! We’ve released a small hotfix with the following fixes along with official Windows MR support. Here’s the list of changes included in today’s hotfix:

  • Sniper blinders now respect the comfort blinders settings
  • Fix for multi-tool sometimes being left behind after players leaves the server (responsible for that humming sound in the Bent Horizon that sometimes shows up)
  • Offset the height checks for strafing to reduce snags
  • Delay showing the teleport visual feedback until valid data is available
  • Also hide teleport visual feedback when performing dash teleports
  • Windows MR now supported! Thumbstick for directional strafe/teleport instead of using Vive style swipes on directional pad

Weekly Mission: Elf Attack!

The Reign of Tiny Enemies continues! The Mites are throwing every teacup sized ball of murder they have down our chimneys folks. We’ll need help stomping these elf sized bugs just in time for the holidays.

Gunheart is a co-op shooter built from the ground up for virtual reality. You and your friends will inhabit robotic bounty hunters trying to make a buck at the edge of the galaxy; there you will blast aliens, explore exotic locations and rake in cash to upgrade your rig. Along the way you’ll master a large arsenal of weapons and discover mods that can change them in unique ways.

Battle your way through hours of bug-infested frontier where the environments and encounters are remixed to make the missions feel different every time you play. If other players drop in to join you mid-mission, the game will dynamically adjust the difficulty so you’ll be challenged playing solo or with a crew.

At the mission hub you’ll be able to outfit your rig with an array of high-tech murder machines that will have you blasting, hacking and mowing enemies down with full motion control. If you prefer to get up close and personal when dismembering your foes, you can use your multitool to grab barrels, crates and even enemies to use as makeshift weapons.

Completing missions also offers the chance to earn loot which can be smashed open back at the Bent Horizon. Smashing open loot will unlock either cosmetic items to customize your look, weapon modifications to reconfigure your weapons in dramatic ways, or bonus cash to further help support your bounty hunting efforts. Each weapon can have up to 3 modifications stacked on at any given time, allowing you to uniquely customize your favorite weapons to fit your playstyle. There are currently 40+ weapon modifications and 50+ cosmetic items to acquire through playing.

To navigate the hostile environment that is Planet Fortune, you’re outfitted with a full suite of locomotion options that allow you to teleport or strafe, play standing, seated, or to room scale. A full set of control scheme options allow users to easily switch between layouts, and comfort options such as dynamic “blinders” can be toggled based on player preference.

Gunheart supports full cross-play between Oculus Touch, HTC Vive, and Windows MR.

Gunheart is currently in Steam Early Access, meaning it’s still in development but you are able to download and play the unfinished game from Steam. It usually costs £26.99 (UK) / €31.99 (EU) / $34.99 (US), however it has been discounted for the Steam Winter Sale and currently costs £20.24 (UK) / €23.99 (EU) / $26.24 (US).

Are you planning to buy Gunheart now or wait until it’s left Early Access? Have you bought the game already or played it on another VR system and if so what do you think of it?
