Exclamation Xbox 360 (Non-Kinect) Exclusives 2012
I thought I'd make a thread for non-Kinect (or Kinect optional like Minecraft) Xbox 360 exclusives already released or due to be released this year since some people still seem to believe that there are hardly any non-Kinect Xbox 360 exclusives out this year. While it's true that not many disc-based games have been announced for this year (yet) part of the reason is that Microsoft is pushing digital distribution and many of this year's XBLA games are big games that would normally be released on a disc like Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

I'll put (Looks like a big game.) next to XBLA games that either have been announced to have as much content as a disc-based game or just look like disc-based games if there's not much info about the content and I'll post standard XBLA titles in orange in normal sized font, big XBLA titles in light green in a bigger font and disc-based titles in dark green in the biggest font. I'll put (Console exclusive.) next to games that are/will be available on the PC too but the only console they are/will be available for is the Xbox 360. (Bear in mind that sometimes "console exclusives" can become multiplatform later on, like if they happen to be just timed exclusives.) Also I'll include a link to a trailer (if there is one, or video footage if there is any) and a link to more info for each of the games. The release dates are in UK format (day/month/year).

  • Alan Wake's American Nightmare (XBLA: Shorter than the original Alan Wake but the campaign is still around 5 hours long plus has an extra mode called Fight 'Til Dawn so therefore is a big game.)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Bloodforge (XBLA: Confirmed to be around 5 hours long so this is a big game.)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Capsized (XBLA: Console exclusive & includes Xbox 360 exclusive levels and enhanced graphics.)
    Release date: TBA 2012
    Trailer. Official website.
  • Dungeon Fighter Live: Fall Of Hendon Myre (XBLA: Console exclusive. Looks similar to Guardian Heroes!)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Dust: An Elysian Tail (XBLA: Confirmed to be a big game - around 10 hours if you just rush through, around 20 hours if you complete everything. It looks awesome! Big Grin)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Happy Wars (XBLA: Free to play! It seems to be like Fable Heroes crossed with Unreal Tournament or something, lol!)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Hybrid (XBLA: Looks like a big game, but multi-player only unfortunately, no single-player. Sad)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise (XBLA: Console exclusive. Could be a big game, the campaign has 28 levels but I don't know how long each level is.)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Laika Believes (XBLA: Console exclusive. Not sure what kind of game this is.)
    Release date: TBA 2012
    More info.
  • Lives And Death (XBLA: Looks like it might be a big game.)
    Release date: TBA 2012
    Trailer. More info.
  • Serious Sam Double D (XBLA: Console exclusive.)
    Release date: TBA 2012
    Trailer. More info.
  • Skulls Of The Shogun (XBLA: Console exclusive.)
    Release date: TBA 2012
    Trailer. More info.
  • South Park: Tenorman's Revenge (XBLA: Not sure how big it is, just a 2D platform beat-em-up, but it looks cool! Big Grin)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. Demo video. More info.
  • State Of Decay (formally known as Class 3) (XBLA: Looks like a big game as it's an open-world (4km X 4km map) survival horror (unfortunately co-op multiplayer has been dropped for the time being, but it will obviously be in the sequel Class 4 as that will be an MMO) that uses the CryENGINE 3.)
    Release date: TBA 2012
    Video. Trailer. More info.
  • The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing (XBLA: Console exclusive. It's an action RPG so could be a big game.)
    Release date: Q4 2012
    Teaser. Pre-Alpha Trailer. More info.
  • Trials Evolution (XBLA: Confirmed to be a lot bigger than Trials 1.)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.
  • Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition (Console exclusive.)
    Release date: OUT NOW!
    Trailer. More info.

Also Captain Blood was supposed to come out on the Xbox 360 (console exclusive) but the official website only mentions PC now. Undecided The same with MechWarrior Online which was originally MechWarrior 5, but I have a suspicion that Microsoft will reveal an Xbox 360 version again at E3.

  • Disc-Based Exclusives (including console exclusives): 6
  • XBLA Exclusives - Look like big games (including console exclusives): 17
  • XBLA Exclusives - Standard (including console exclusives): 16

(Released so far: 26)

I can add more games as they're announced. Also remember these are just (non-Kinect) exclusives, obviously there are LOADS of games coming out this year for the Xbox 360 that are multiplatform.

Information RE: Xbox 360 (Non-Kinect) Exclusives 2012
I just added Skulls Of The Shogun to the list. It's an XBLA console exclusive.

I just added Lives And Death to the list. It's XBLA according to the title of the trailer but it looks like it could be a big game. Here's a preview from OXM:

Quote:Lives and Death is an adventure game with its closest analog being, perhaps, David Cage’s emotional drama Heavy Rain for the PlayStation 3. For Xbox, then, it’s something quite new. You are Phillip Bester, a man who wakes up with no memory of what’s happened to him, save for a vision of his own death. He only knows that he has to get away from where he is, to (hopefully) avoid his fate. His reality splits along with his personality. Soon, different things are happening in each reality, such as physics changing or gravity being altered. We’re told the screen can split up to nine times to represent each reality, and you can die in some of those realities. It’s up to you to learn things in each one that can be applied to the others.

And the first trailer:

Exclamation RE: Xbox 360 (Non-Kinect) Exclusives 2012
2 more Xbox 360 exclusives to add to the list! The first is a Darkstalkers-style 1-on-1 beat-em-up called Phantom Breaker that's being released on disc on April 10th:

The 2nd is an awesome looking scrolling beat-em-up with cel-shaded 3D graphics (similar to Street Fighter 4's) and 2-player co-op called Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise which will be released on XBLA on March 28th for 800msp:

Another exclusive added to the list. Smile Akai Katana has already been released in Japan and will be out in the UK (and presumably the rest of Europe too) on April 27th and probably around the same time in America too. Here are details from the official website:

Quote:Experience sensory overload with CAVE's latest addition to the shoot-em-up arena, Akai Katana.

Set in a parallel world resembling Japan's Taisho period, the people have discovered the powerful Blood Swords. Requiring human sacrifices to unleash their immense destructive power, these swords have been used by the empire to crush neighbouring countries. However, all the bloodshed and power gained through sacrificing close family members has made some of the swordsmen reconsider. With new fighter planes and the powered up swords at their disposal, this small band of rebels now fight back against the tyrannical empire.

Created specifically with the Xbox 360 in mind, Akai Katana is the first CAVE release to feature horizontal combat in sumptuous HD and eye-watering full 16:9 support.

Prepare for a new definition of 'bullet-hell'!

  • Gorgeous hand-drawn artwork and lovingly rendered sprites
  • Full HD 16:9 support
  • Three gameplay modes: Origin (Arcade) Mode, Slash Mode and Climax Mode
  • Fully animated UI
  • Original Arcade settings optional for authentic experience
  • Online leaderboards and replays
  • Local 2-player co-op

Added another one to the list. Charlie Murder by Ska Studios (who make The Dishwasher games), which like the original Dishwasher originally started off as an Indie Game. (As in planned for the "Indie Games" section, it's still an "indie game" as in made by an independent developer.) I don't know what sort of game it is as they've only released a logo so far but they say it's going to be shown at PAX East.

Information RE: Xbox 360 (Non-Kinect) Exclusives 2012
I've found more info on Charlie Murder, it's a beat-em-up that's sort of a cross between Double Dragon and Castle Crashers:

Quote:This side-scrolling brawler from the developer of The Dishwasher stars a fictitious punk band.

Originally set as another XBLA Indie Game, Charlie Murder was picked up by Microsoft and will be sold as a XBLA just like Ska Studios' other series, The Dishwasher. The fictional band has since then sent a press release saying that they have "sold out" and are in rehab trying to workout their problems. Charlie Murder is currently scheduled for release on Xbox Live Arcade in 2012.

The game is a beat 'em up brawler where the player will play as the band Charlie Murder. The band includes:
  • Charlie Murder
  • Lester Death
  • The Rexecutioner
  • Tommy Homicide

Giant Bomb also have an old preview from PAX East 2010 when it was originally going to be an Indie Game:

Quote:Charlie Murder is a four-player brawler starring the members of a fictitious punk band called... Charlie Murder. Oh, hey, the front man's name is also Charlie Murder, and he's backed by Lester Deth on guitar, Tommy Homicide on bass, and The Rexecutioner on drums. The story behind the game is that Charlie's girlfriend--Skelekitten--has been taken by a rival metal band. So you'll have to beat up a bunch of dudes with crowbars and unleash special attacks to save the day.

The action doesn't seem to stray too far from the classic brawlers of the '80s and '90s. You can jump and attack, you can wield a variety of weapons, and you each have a special move that'll get you out of a bind by knocking down a group of enemies. These powers are based around each character's instrument of choice, so Charlie blasts his enemies with sonic waves from his singing, while the drummer makes a drum kit materialize and pounds nearby foes into submission, and so on. If you're playing multiplayer, you can pop those specials off simultaneously. I was left with the impression that doing so made the attacks more effective. The demo being shown at PAX East also contained a vehicle level, where players toss junk at motorcycle-riding bad guys. It looked like it could make for a neat diversion, similar to the motorcycle level in Renegade.

And here's a Giant Bomb video interview that includes direct-feed footage from PAX 2011:

Some more exclusives to add to the list! Big Grin The first one is called The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing. It's an XBLA game but could be a big game as it's an action RPG. Here's the press release about it:

Quote:Action RPG Adventure The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing Announced for PC and XBLA
Gritty and Gothic Title Brings Famed Hunter to Alternate 19th Century Europe

When night falls and the supernatural awake from their slumber, only the bravest souls will trespass unscathed. Independent developer NeocoreGames today announced the entry of a brand-new IP entitled The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, an Action RPG filled with fierce and demonic battles, memorable characters, and a refreshingly unique story that brings the legendary vampire slayer to modern audiences. The upcoming title, loosely based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula, is being developed for PC and Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

Set in a gothic-noir universe resembling a fantastical 19th century Europe filled with monsters, magic, and weird technology, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing will follow the son of the famed hunter, known in-game as Van Helsing, in a tale wrought with wry humor and snappy dialogue. Van Helsing, a larger-than-life hero possessing a dark yet romantic charm, will follow his path to the dismal land of Borgovia where former supernatural foes have enlisted his help to defeat a new scourge terrorizing the ravaged Eastern European city. With an assortment of extraordinary characters, an engrossing storyline, and a beautifully dark and gothic art style, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing looks to bring RPG enthusiasts an anachronistic adventure like no other.

“Being located in Eastern Europe and having experience developing RPGs, Van Helsing is a natural fit for us; it’s a project where we can demonstrate our expertise in both domains and create something novel that RPG fans can appreciate,” said Viktor Juhász, lead writer at NeocoreGames. “We’ve always enjoyed crafting games from legendary tales, but with our own twist, and Van Helsing provides us the perfect game world to experiment with.”

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing is slated for a late Q4 2012 release.

The next game is Miner Wars 2081 and is another XBLA game that looks like a big game and is due out Q3-Q4 2012. There's also Miner Wars MMO due out later but I don't know if that will be available for the Xbox 360 or just PC only. The game appears to be a "spiritual successor" to the Descent games with former Descent developers working on it! Here's more info from the official website:

Quote:Miner Wars Overview

Miner Wars is a first-person action-survival space simulation game set in the year 2081. This first installment of the Miner Wars franchise is currently being developed by Keen Software House a. s., an independent software company founded and lead by Marek Rosa. There are currently two branches: Miner Wars 2081 as a classical single-player, co-op and multi-player and Miner Wars MMO as a massive multiplayer online version.

Taking place in a post-apocalyptic inner Solar System, approximately 10 years after the destruction of Earth. The premise of the story supposes a very limited technological advancement, and a population desperately struggling to live long-term in space without a home planet. War breaks out over vital resources such as food, oxygen and fuel.

Official development of the project commenced in 2009. Miner Wars runs on the VRAGE engine, built and tailored specifically for the title.

The player controls a mining ship on an adventure across the inner Solar System.
Miner Wars is an action-oriented game, set in a fully destructible and open-world environment, which remains persistent as players complete missions or play online with others. Realism and survival will be key aspects of gameplay. Inventory and the way players use resources such as fuel, ammunition, oxygen, ore, and weapons will be important when surrounded by dozens of warring factions.

Miner Wars 2081 features both competitive and co-operative multiplayer. Players are able to complete the entire story campaign with multiple online allies. Miner Wars MMO will be released about 6 months after MW 2081 and will be classical massive multiplayer online game for one-time buy price (no subscription fees).

The game is set in the year 2081, 10 years after the destruction of Earth.

Being so early in space technology and colonization, people are ill-equipped to survive in space indefinitely. Mining colonies previously established in space allowed some few hundreds of thousands people to live in space and continue the species.

War breaks out.

Stay tuned...

Development on the Miner Wars franchise began in 2002 as a side project by Marek Rosa, the current Founder and CEO of Keen Software House.

In 2009 the project began full-time work and a production team was formed. Originally planned for release in 2011, a trailer was released in 2010 that caught the eye of Audio Director Dan Wentz, sound artist for games such as Saints Row, FreeSpace, and Red Faction. The production team continued to grow in 2010, and there are currently around 30 core developers both working internally at their headquarters in Prague, and externally in America.

The website has undergone several changes, and collects regular feedback from gamers through the forums. In October of 2010, the pre-alpha version of Miner Wars 2081 was released to the public, with a free demo version and discounted pre-order version.

Miner Wars 2081 is expected for publish in Q3-Q4 2012.

Miner Wars MMO is scheduled for Q4 2012.

Miner Wars 2081 and Miner Wars MMO will be available for Windows PC, and later released on Xbox 360 Live arcade.

Key Features
  • Colossal-Scale Destruction – Everything in Miner Wars 2081’s environment will be destructible and persistent—everything.
Deform the terrain, chip away at cover, and make things difficult for campers. Thanks to Miner Wars’ VRAGE™ engine, the environment can be used to absolute tactical advantage. Build bases inside gigantic asteroids, burrow shortcuts and kilometres-long tunnels through solid rock and make a silent pounce with the harvester drill.
  • 6DoF / FPS in Space – The combination of 6DoF and first person makes Miner Wars an exciting and fast-paced battleground.
FPS veterans will feel at home with our 'WASD' mouse-and-key setup; and for space simulation fans, your beloved joysticks will ensure intuitive play and added advantage.
  • Skill-Based Game - Miner Wars is not about ‘grinding’ your way to level X.
Miner Wars is not about repeating mundane tasks or quests, leveling or experience points. Player skill and mental agility, creative and tactical cunning—in multiplayer an understanding of psychology and choosing which battles to fight or retreat from is a key aspect of gameplay.
  • Wide Variety of Ships – Choose the best ship for the job.
Each ship has its advantages and disadvantages; you will have to experiment to ensure the best craft for the particular mission. Upgrades and add-ons to your ship will also play a large role in outfitting the best possible vessel, be it a mining operation, a full-scale battle, exploration, stealth, or tunnelling.
  • Complex Dungeons in Space – Seamless transition between outdoor and indoor environments.
Enter large asteroid bases and space stations full of enemies Players will also be able to battle each other in these indoor areas and engage in some truly intense multiplayer battles.
  • Ship Upgrades - Every ship can be upgraded with a wide variety of equipment, weapons and augmentations.
Armour plating, storage space, engine boosts (in both speed and economy), radar systems, maneuvering-thrusters, mining tools, and myriad others on offer.
  • Mining and Exploration – Players are encouraged to explore and harvest.
There are many elements, compounds and materials to be mined from asteroids and sold for ‘Credits’, or used in various ways. Some of these are extremely rare and valuable. Exploration is also a key element of the game, finding items and credits which can be spent on weapons, upgrades, tools, etc.
  • Epic-Scale Battles – The VRAGE™ engine allows up to 300 ships to be displayed in a sector at once.
The variety of weapons, 300 ships and the size of the sectors allow for some colossal battles.
  • Looting – Any destructible ship in the game can be looted by another player.
Looting is a vital part of the Miner Wars experience. When a player decides how they will pursue another, by disabling the engines rather than simply obliterating them with missiles will result in a higher proportion of the items and equipment items in their inventory.
It’s important to always be careful of what you carry in your inventory, lest you have it stolen or lost.
  • Factions - In the Miner Wars Universe there will be dozens of factions.
Each faction will have different approaches and motivations throughout the story-world—from miners to fanatics, privateers to nations. In Miner Wars 2081 the player is a part of the EAC – Euro-American Confederation. But there are other factions too: Fourth Reich, OmniCorp, People’s Republic of China, Arab Islamic Empire and more.
In the up-and-coming Miner Wars MMO, players will be able to choose to join a faction, or form a corporation, complete with shares and leaders.
  • Combination of Single and Multiplayer Elements – If a mission is too difficult, you can simply hire a friend to help you on your mission or quest!

Here's a really cool trailer:

The 3rd game I found is called Unstoppable Gorg, which is already out on the PC, Mac & iPad and is "COMING SOON!" to XBLA. Here's some info from the official website:

DANGER! Earth is under attack from a vast armada of flying saucers. Only you can stop the invasion of these relentless alien monsters - don't let a single one through!

Get ready for a revolution in tower defense that will send you spinning.
Defend the solar system by sending satellites into orbit around planets,
moons and space stations. Create the perfect defense by rotating
orbits to move your satellites into the best positions. Do you have
what it takes to defeat the Gorg and save the solar system?
Find out in more than 40 levels of thrilling tower defense action
inspired by classic sci-fi films
from the 1950s.

Here's the pretty funny trailer:

This 4th game is another one that has already been released on the PC but is also due out on XBLA. Serious Sam Double D is a Contra-style 2D platform-shoot-em-up. Here's more info about it:

Once again, Sam ‘Serious’ Stone must use the Time-Lock to travel through time and destroy the enemies of humanity’s past, in order to save its future.
But since his last outing, 2 important new relics have been discovered: the Gun Stacker and the Porta Pad.

Only Sam is serious enough – and crazy enough – to use this untested technology.

All that stands between victory and annihilation is a man with a T-shirt and jeans… and a great big pile of guns.

  • One gun sometimes not enough? Two still too wimpy? Try firing all your guns at once with the GUN STACKER system!
  • Collect up to 4 of any weapon type (laser guns, shotguns, flamethrowers, CHAINSAWS and more) , then stack 'em up and let'er rip!
  • New Enemies in glorious 2D! Fight exploding-banana shooting CHIMPUTEES and evil pancakes known as VUVUZELATORS!
  • Corpse-Piling Technology! Sometimes the best way out is up--on dead monster CORPSES!
  • Porta Pad technology: Anywhere, ANYTIME throw a jump-pad just when you need it!
  • SECRETS galore, find new extra health, ammo, armor, extra weapons and even comedy secrets!
  • Unlock CHALLENGE ROOMS such as 4 chainsaw fights, and how long can you survive against dozens of dinos?

And here's the hilariously awesome trailer:

The final game I came across is Capsized which is yet another game that's already out on the PC and was due out on XBLA last December but that obviously didn't happen so hopefully it's due out soon. (When it is released it will include Xbox 360 exclusive levels and enhanced graphics according to this press release: http://www.zoogamesinc.com/press/indiepu...ve-arcade/ ) Here's more info about the game from the official website:

Quote:Capsized is a fast paced 2d platformer developed by Alientrap Games, focused on intense action and exploration.

As a intrepid space traveler, your ship has crash landed on a mysterious alien planet. You must navigate through the perilous environment and fight off blood-thirsty creatures to save your crewmates and escape with your lives!

Artist Jesse McGibney and programmer Lee Vermeulen create an immersive alien world teeming with bizarre life-forms and strange landscapes presented in a unique hand-drawn art style. Combining control elements of first person shooters and innovative physics based combat, Capsized emphasizes action without giving up the smart problem solving of classic platform games.

And here is the trailer:

A teaser trailer for The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing has been released. No gameplay in it unfortunately but the music is cool and slightly creepy.

Exclamation RE: Xbox 360 (Non-Kinect) Exclusives 2012
The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing E3 interview and first game footage! Big Grin (Probably the PC version footage as there's a mouse cursor on screen.) It looks similar to the Xbox 1 game Hunter: The Reckoning which was awesome! This appears to have a lot more RPG elements though. (And obviously even better graphics, although Hunter: The Reckoning had great graphics on the Xbox too.)

Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise has been delayed AGAIN! Sad Although that was obvious when May came and went without any sign of it, lol! Now it's due out on September 5th. It's also now just a console exclusive as there's a PC version being released too, in fact it's being released on the PC next week! Dodgy
