Game Party: In Motion - The good
  • It works for the most part for a mini-game compliation!
  • You get to use your avatars, and it automatically pauses if you walk away.
  • An in-depth tournament mode that allows 16 individual players to compete - great for a party
  • I had fun with quite a few games, and you can't beat the price for $39.99 USD

Game Party: In Motion - The not so good
  • They also attempted to re-invent the navigation system, however it's more functional then Deca, but still invisible
  • A few of the mini-games were quirky, but I go in detail below
  • No options available to setup specific game types which I guess isn't bad for a party game but it's not good for serious players

Game Party: In Motion - Story
No story mode, but there is a tournament mode in it. It allows up to 16 individual players to compete. Kind of a fun idea for a good party game. It's a bracket style playoff layout. All players get their own pictures taken and they get their own avatars if they want. Might take forever to setup, but I like the idea!

Game Party: In Motion - Kinect experience
Kinect works well with this game. I would say it's probably on par with Kinect Sports, however some of the games need fixing, which I go into detail below.

Game Party: In Motion - Graphics
Graphics are good enough for a mini-game compliation. Same as everyone else doing the avatar games.

Game Party: In Motion - Gameplay
I had fun with quite a few of these games. I played most of them in real life, so I tried to compare real life to the game to see how it stacked up. Oh one thing you definitely want to do is go into options and turn of the ready turn indicator. It's very annoying when playing with one or two people. It would become necessary when more people are involved as people aren't always hanging out waiting for their turn. I'll start with each game in detail.

Hoop Shoot:
- At first I was having issues with it releasing the ball. I then did the kinect calibration and went into fine tuning. I pretended I was shooting the ball, well low and behold, at the top of my shot, the camera stops tracking my hands because they are out of view. I am 5'11" and I believe my reach is about 27 inches if I remember correctly. So, after I readjusted my tilt to catch my hand at release, it worked very well. Well enough I scored like some 350 points or something. It also seems to work better with only one hand since they are the mini-bballs. Anyway, this is pretty accurate to the real thing. I enjoyed this one, but I think it's better with 2 people.

Root Beer Tapper:
- This one seemed to be very sensitive to me. It tracks your hand in a pushing motion towards the kinect camera. Just a slight flick of your hand and it'll launch like 2 mugs down the bar. You also have to step left and right to change each bar. If they can patch it and fix the sensitivity, this would be quite a damn challenging game. I remember the original atari one was very challenging, this one is pretty close.
- No options though. It's just timed and you have to see how many you can do within the time limit. It would be cooler if they made difficulty levels like the atari one Big Grin

Skill Ball:
- Unfortunately this one needs a little work. It detects velocity but it's not very accurate and aiming is somewhat quirky as well. It also doesn't help as you can't see the ball in your hand, so until it displays how many points you get, you can't throw the next ball. Patch could fix this and make it fun. You just don't get any tickets out of it to trade in for a toy! Tongue

- Now this one was actually accurate. You have to both hands and smack the trolls heads as the pop up. Not only that, there are 4 troll heads that pop up on the floor, so you have to step on those ones. This one is seriously a pain in the ass, I was moving all over the place, but it could be because I'm not that coordinated enough. It was tough to me though, I think kids will have a blast with it.

Table Hockey:
- This one worked ok. Standard rules, first to 7 wins. The only thing that gets confusing, it wants you to somewhat move your handle like up and down, yet the instructions tell you to bring it in closer to the kinect camera to move up, so just so you know, move up and down and not in and out. It wasn't too bad.

Tic-Tac-Toe Face-Off:
- This one was a pain as well. The controls worked fine, but I don't think the board is big enough. You feet cover 2 of the squares, so I think it gets confused as to which one you want. If they made it a tad bigger, this may actually be a fun way to play tic-tac-toe.

Double Racquets:
- Now I had a ton of fun with this one. You get 2 racquets in each hand. I think accuracy helped make it more fun as well, as you have to kind of eye ball where the ball is coming, and I kept having low ones so you have crouch down and angle your racket (if you had a real one) like close to the ground to scoop it up.
- The objective is fun as well, you and another player hit one ball each. Any ball you miss thats on your side, they get a point and vice versa. Any ball that bounces on the ground for 5 times, depending on whose side its on, the opposite player gets a point.
- This one also tracked velocity, so you can really get some balls flying. This one is more active than some of the other activities.
- Now if only they could make tennis this accurate! Tongue

QB In Motion:
- This was a different kind of game. You play as QB. You have to throw a football to a moving bullseye that is blue/red/yellow. Different colors you hit score different points. Now there are like 3 other avatars, that try to tackle you. It'll play like a bull or a train or some kind of hint to know when they are charging at you. You have to sidestep to make them miss, and you have to throw the ball when your lane is open. You cannot throw it over their head, so if they are blocking your path, you have to wait or move to the other side to get points. It was a challenging game.
- It's not 100% accurate, but it works. I think the "zone" area where you throw is somewhat small to me. Because just about an arms reach will make your ball sail way far right or left.

- Amazingly, this one is top notch except for a couple glitches. The clouds moved in and took the sun away, so it got somewhat dark on the playing area, and the other one had random horseshoes disappear during the throw, which isn't game factoring as at the end it re-appears. They work this out, it'll be good Smile
- Rules are normal, points cancel each other out, play to 21.

Bocce Ball:
- Now this is the only game I've never played in real life, so I couldn't tell you if the rules are accurate, but it is very fun. I think the one game I played against the computer lasted about 15-20 minutes. For a mini-game, that's awhile. But I think it's pretty accurate with the rules, throw a jack out, then try to get all your balls closest to the jack. Controls worked fine as well. Aiming isn't too hard but not too accurate either.

Bag Toss:
- Now this one I had issues with. Not with the throwing, it is very sensitive so if you give a little power, you are throwing it in the next backyard, but more or less with this version they came up with.
- First it alternates throws, all of the bag toss I have played, you never alternate throws. It just seemed to take forever as each person threw one bag switching turns.
- Second was the cancelling of points out. In this version, you both get points no matter what. I always found it more challenging when someone scores a hole on you, then the pressure is on to get that hole as well so you cancel out their 3 points.
- The bags also don't knock each other off. There is no object detection within the game itself, so the bags will just land on top of each other and merge together.
- Overall, this one needs to have some new rules and patched as well - wasn't satisfied with it, someone else may be however.

- This one worked also well. I did have one problem though, not sure if the game changes in-game avatars based on your avatar, but a couple avatars with like...daisy dukes on or something kept walking by the table and all I seen was legs and it was actually distracting, maybe because I'm a typical guy Tongue But this one was fun Smile

- This one I didn't really like the concept, but I guess it's innovative. You first have to lean and move to line up your aiming reticule where you want it. Once you have it in place, confirm it and it's locked. Next, you just throw, as long as you throw lightly, it also goes whereever you aim. Throw harder or softer and it goes higher or lower. It just wasn't realistic enough for me.
- They did however have 301 in it, which is one of my favorites along with cricket. If they can fix this one somehow, this will be a winner as well.

- This one bugged me somewhat. The concept is fine, it works for what is needed, same as Darts - you lock in your aim, then use your hand as power to hit with your stick.
- The rules however, are just complete garbage. It's like half ass 8-ball. You basically break, choose solids or stripes, then slop everything in and even the 8-ball. No pocket calling at all.
- The computer also shoots like a kid, they just wack it and balls go all over the place and if he gets something in, he just goes again.
- The other thing was there is no use of english. But I guess it's a party game, so it can't be that realistic. I am hoping someone does come out with a brilliant pool game though.

Puck Bowling:
- This was a different take on bowling, another one I never played in real life, but it was fun. It's using same accuracy and power as the shuffleboard game so it works well.

Ping Cup:
- It works - but it does take the drinking fun out of the real game. It does get quite challenging when you have 1 or 2 cups left on the table though. Took me about 15 tries to nail the last 2. It is sensitive with power as well. I bounced off the table, but you can throw overhand like basketball.

Game Party: In Motion - Multiplayer options
I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I'm going to just guess here, for some of the games, you will probably need some room, especially double racquets.

Game Party: In Motion - Achievements
I won't lie, if you like achievements, the majority of them are easy to get.

Overall, good game and the $40 USD price makes it reasonable. It's by all means not perfect, however it can be fun. It's not really challenging for single player mode, you will finish it in about an hour or two, but if you have parties and looking for something to do, this would probably be a hit.

RE: [Game Party: In Motion] Review: There's still hope! [7/10]
I put this game in for the kids a few minutes ago and the system first shut down, then ejected the disc, then once I finally got to play "hoops" it wouldn't read our motions. Anyone else have this problem and how to fix it. We got the Kinect on Christmas and the 360's less than two weeks old. All our other kinect games are fine.

Do the calibration once you are in the game and then do the hoop motion and make sure your hand is still being tracked...you will probably have to manually adjust tilt, unfortunately kinect sports is the one I have seen so far that does automatic tilting, that's why it works flawlessly.

LOL! I figured out what the problem was.... the sensor was turned slightly to the right where the kids were sitting. Had to center it and kick them out of the room.

RE: Game Party: In Motion Kinect Review
Sadly, 1 year later, it seems there has not been any update. I just bought the game & there was no prompt to download an update.

I found air hockey to be unrealistic - puck should be bouncier when deflecting off the paddles, & it was hard to make a controlled shot in general.

Still have to try some of the other games - I like pool & shove board quite a bit.
