Mass Effect demo goes live!

The wait is finally over! Starting today everyone can get a taste of the new Mass Effect 3 by playing the FREE demo! Some lucky early-access winners were already able to play it last week but now it is available for everyone.

Mass Effect 3 Demo

The Mass Effect 3 demo features two scenes from the final game, one all the way at the beginning, and one a bit further in. The cool thing about the demo is that the Kinect functionality is fully functional so if you own a Kinect you can now test out how it is to play Mass Effect with voice commands (I loved it btw).

Multiplayer

One thing that wasn’t activated for early-access winners was the multiplayer part of the demo. Starting today the servers are now online and those that won early-access and those that hold a Battlefield 3 online pass will now be able to play Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.

Looks pretty good too… I wasn’t able to use vocal commands all the time though… the microphone icon only showed up at specific moments and I wasn’t able to use it at all in the combat (I played the campaign part only). Am I the only one with this issue?

During the combat the microphone icon pops up when it detects a voice command. It will turn red if it didn’t understand the command or stay white if the command was recognized. I had absolutely no trouble with the voice recognition (which is surprising because my native language is not English).

Thought it worked great and does make it all flow better. Though trying to remember all the commands in the heat of insane mode battle will be interesting. The only command that didn’t work was reload weapon I’m sure that must be a command?
