The “My Xbox” section of the xbox.com website is getting a massive update. The update will not only change the look and feel of the website, but will also add some significant new community features. Features that will make playing Kinect together with your friends a lot easier!

A new look and feel

The big update to the My Xbox section will give the popular page a complete design overhaul. The new design (as seen above) doesn’t come as a big surprise though, because it is based on the “Metro” style that is also being incorporated in Windows 8, Windows Phone 7 and the new upcoming Xbox Dashboard. The new layout will make it much easier to perform the most common tasks you do with the website, like checking your messages, redeeming codes and checking the status of your friends.

Your Friends and beacons

One of the biggest additions to the website is features that revolve around your friends. You can now see the popular games your friends have been playing, what they are playing right now and who else played them recently. This is a really handy feature and will give you an immediate indication of what game you should get to get some maximum multiplayer value!

Another cool thing is that you can set so-called “beacons”, which lets you mark games that you would like to play with others! You can even add a bit of text to the beacon indicating for example when you want to play it. This would make it far easier to plan some multiplayer sessions with friends on an ad-hoc bases!

There are quite a few more additional features to the new My Xbox section and you can find the full post about it on the Xbox Blog.

Do you think this is an improvement to the website? And will you be using the new beacons feature?
