At Microsoft’s Pre-E3 Media Briefing not only first-party Kinect games were announced and/or demoed but also third-party ones. In an interview with GameSpot Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Game Studios, talks about Microsoft’s strategy with regards to competition as well as first and third party games with Kinect support.
Phil Spencer on games with Kinect support
Probably one thing that we were all wondering is how do third-parties get into developing games with Kinect support. Phil Spencer explains that sometimes Microsoft solicits 3rd parties to develop Kinect games and other times is other way around, third party developers come to Microsoft with ideas.
Furthemore, he thinks that all first-party games will have Kinect support:
It’s not a mandate that everything we do in first-party has to support Kinect right now. But I will say, specifically with voice, that there are some things that just seem to make navigating and playing games so much easier, that I would guess the answer will be yes in the end, that you’ll see all first-party games using some form of Kinect functionality.
