Epic's Cliff Bleszinski has confirmed that Gears Of War: Exile, which was rumoured to be a PS3 version of Gears Of War, has been cancelled. Clearly Epic feel that the PS3 just can't handle a Gears Of War game even if it was on-rails which is what Gears Of War: Exile was assumed to be... This thread is obviously complete nonsense as I have no idea what platform Gears Of War: Exile was going to be released on nor what sort of game it was supposed to be. Yet many other websites have written their articles about Gears Of War: Exile being cancelled (and we don't even know when it was cancelled, it seems that Gamespot just happened to ask Cliff Bleszinski about it and he said it was cancelled without saying when or why) in this way, except replacing PS3 with Kinect and many of them just using it as an excuse to bash Kinect again. This total lack of objectivity and finding any excuse to bash Kinect really makes me sick. I don't mind Kinect being mentioned in articles about Gears Of War: Exile being cancelled but it should just be written like this:

Headline: Gears Of War: Exile Cancelled!

Sample of article:

Cliff Bleszinski confirmed to the website Gamespot that there was a game called Gears Of War: Exile but also that it has also unfortunately been cancelled. He refused to give anymore details about the game or what platform it was for, but there were rumours that it was a Kinect version of Gears Of Wars. Here is Cliff Bleszinski's statement: "Let's just bury the hatchet now," he said. "Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can't give any details about that has since been cancelled."

I think that would be a pretty fair and accurate article wouldn't you?

Not all the websites bashed Kinect in their articles but many still had misleading headines claiming it was definitely a Kinect game, just check them out:

Gears Of War Kinect Cancelled http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/gears-of-wa...4-09-2012/

Quote:If there were still doubts that Microsoft’s Kinect can only function as an ancillary tool at best in mainstream games, this bit of news should put them to rest. Epic’s experimental Gears of War using the motion-control peripheral has been quietly put out to pasture, according to Epic Creative Director Cliff Bleszinsky.
No, Geeky Gadgets, Cliff Bleszinsky never mentioned Kinect when talking about Gears Of War: Exile. In fact let's look at some quotes from him from last year where he does mention Kinect shall we?:

Quote:Some gamers were left disappointed by the Kinect emphasis, but for Bleszinski the hate is unwarranted.

"I just don't understand," he said during a behind closed doors developer session following Microsoft's press conference.

"If there gamers out there that are weird about it, like, what's the problem? If you don't like it, don't play it.

"I had an interesting conversation where one of the PR people pulled me aside and was like, 'It has come to our attention that you might not like Kinect.' I'm like, does anybody read my Twitter feed? I went to the f***ing launch of it in New York. I love it.

"This is so strange. It's Move that I dog on all the time. I don't want to hold the two goofy-looking aeroplane-coming-in things, right? Less plastic on my coffee table as far as I'm concerned is a good thing.

"I've been asked about integration into Gears. If we had put it into Gears 3, considering the development time table, it would have been a tacked-on feature.

"If we were to get around to doing something Kinect-based, we would want to dedicate something to it and really knock it out the park and make it a Kinect game."

So according to that he actually loves Kinect and if he makes a Kinect game he would make a dedicated game and "really knock it out of the park".

Kinect-Powered Gears Of War Exile Cancelled http://games.on.net/article/15319/Kinect..._Cancelled

Quote:Epic Games' Design Director, Cliff Blezisnksi, has confirmed that Gears of War: Exile, the supposedly-Kinect-powered Gears game in the works at Epic, has now been cancelled. "Let's just bury the hatchet now. Gears of War: Exile was an unannounced game that I can't give any details about that has since been cancelled," said Bleszinski. No actual information about the game was known, but trademarks for the game were registered in January of 2011.
If no actual information was known then why did you declare it to be "Kinect-powered" in your headline?

If Gears Of War: Exile really was a Kinect game, as I hoped it would be, then obviously it's a shame. But even if it was we have no idea why it was cancelled let alone that there was any issue with Kinect.
