505 Games is enjoying something of a surprise hit with Zumba Fitness as the game is outperforming expectations! The game aims to keep you and I fit via nine different dance styles: Reggaeton, Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Hip-Hop, Mambo, Rumba, Flamenco and Calypso. The XBOX 360 version already shipped over 500,000 times in mid-January, but continues its success in February and beyond according to Bog Burridge.
Sales Projections Outperformed
505’s sales director Bob Burridge said that despite the hugely competitive fitness game market, Zumba Fitness outperformed expectations.
It’s fair to say that whilst Zumba is a product we knew had some potential, the level of its success has outperformed expectations. The fitness games sector is hugely competitive, especially since the introduction of various motion-sensitive controllers, and we have managed to outperform a number of brands that have benefited either from bigger marketing budgets and/or celebrity endorsement.
Burridge added: “From here we’re going to make sure we maximise the momentum we have on Xbox 360 Kinect and look to repeat the success on Wii and PS3.”

Zumba is currently 505’s best-performing title in terms of pre-orders on Wii and PS3, MCV reports. Good for them; let's hope this inspires them to start a game on the Xbox 360 Kinect platform, next time they want to create a surprise hit.
