Zumba Fitness - The good
  • Even though I have never heard of any of the music, its all likable
  • The dances are very realistic, but it makes it really fun at the same time
  • Because it's a dance workout and not a fitness training program, you dont' get completely exhausted
  • It has a workout mode with calendar scheduling just like a regular fitness program, or if you just want to dance like dance central, you can do that as well

Zumba Fitness - The not so good
  • There are no graphics really
  • The dancers that you follow are straight out of the Just Dance series
  • There is no rating system in party mode like dance central, so you don't know how well you do on each song
  • The tutorials are like dance centrals, where it slows it down so you can learn the steps, but then it just passes you through it anyway even if you fail
  • There's no cue cards for the next moves and you just kind of have to guess at first then follow after you see the move.

Zumba Fitness - Story
No story mode, it does have a workout program with full calendar scheduling for you however.

Zumba Fitness - Kinect experience
Kinect works fairly well with it. Now it was released on Nov. 18th, and it is the 24th now, when I popped it in, there was an update prompt so they did release a patch. I read early reviews that tracking was horrible. It seems they have resolved it with this patch. It's a very difficult game as during the game, it is tracking your elbows, hands, feet, and knees from what I seen it error'd on me. Yes they are experimenting more with tracking. However, because of all of the extra tracking, they do let you get a "green" status (which means you are supposably doing it correctly) because of the difficulty. But if you just stand there, you will see how it puts a red flashing circle around parts that you aren't moving.

Zumba Fitness - Graphics
Unfortunately, you won't be buying this game for the graphics. There really are no backdrops, it's pretty blah just like the Just Dance series. The characters are all Just Dance characters as well. The backup dancers that show up during the song don't even have graphics, they are just a single color silhouette.

Zumba Fitness - Gameplay
I'm going to compare the dancing portion of the game to dance central, since in the US, we have no other dancing games. I will compare the fitness portion to the other fitness games available.

What I liked about this game is the style of dancing. Zumba is mixed of all latino dances, such as salsa, ragga, raggae, merengue, etc. The majority of the dances are all fast paced and non stop. The dances felt more realistic to me as they weren't repetitive and it didn't remind me of high school choir such as some of the moves in dance central songs. The problem is only with playing it over and over will you ever learn the moves. The tutorials try to do a break it down mode, but instead of doing like 2 or 4 step move, it has you doing a 12 step move all in one push. It's quite difficult, and it doesn't care if you do it right or not. However if you want to have a ball, Zumba is awesome, the moves they want you to do are crazy. I'm talking full spins more than just once or twice, dropping on the floor (no break dancing though), going all the way from left to right and vice versa meaning it really utilizes the full space of the kinect play area, you need room for this game. I didn't have it so it let me half ass a lot of it.

The music is great. It's nothing I have ever heard of, but it all has that bouncy I want to dance type of music. I could easily listen to it all the time (probably not on repeat but you know what I mean).

Onto the fitness portion, it doesn't really do a fitness program as it claims. It's just a routine per scheduled day. This routine can be either 20 or 30 minutes, but it's typically a megamix of different Zumba songs. From what I could tell, it doesn't do any calorie tracking or anything. There is supposably an Xbox live class that you can take with a real instructor, but I'm still going to guess and say it doesn't actually do any statistical tracking. I think this is just more of a party game to be honest, but I'm sure Zumba will help anyone get fit, so if you don't care about stats and just love doing Zumba dances, then this game is for you.

Game Name - Multiplayer options
I actually did play multiplayer with this one. You need a ton of freaking room, no joke. Try doing the hustle side step, you know 4 steps with one leg behind the other, and add 4 more to that...That's how much width you need. You also need depth as some of the moves make you jump forward and backward so you really need a ton of room. It does do 2 player simulatenous with Kinect, but it allows 4 as well, with 2 people per turn. It tracked *most* of our moves, I believe it wasn't as accurate though as it was with single player mode.

Overall, you will only buy this game if you like Zumba. If you want to try some really sweet new dance moves, then rent this game. The moves are very difficult, but like I was saying there is no real way to know how well you are doing in a song. It does give you some points, so I suppose you could base it off of that. I gave it a 7 because it's a very different game and I like to see the developers experience more with more precise tracking. If this was just a dancing game, compared to DC, probably a 5. If it just was just a fitness game compared to YS or EASA probably a 2. So I combined both and there's the 7 Smile

One last note - amazingly since I had the game, I watched the DVD Zumba infomercial. So here's what I noticed, it has like almost all of the same songs as the DVDs. However, the DVDs are cheaper, I believe they are advertising $60 for like 4 DVDs with some zumba toners that shake like maraccas. I'm thinking if you are just looking to get Zumba for Kinect, it's probably cheaper to just get the dvd's and its somewhat like the same thing, it's just not as interactive.

Hope this review helps anyone on the fence about it!

Thanks for the review. Shame they didn't put in the work to make this title worth the price of admission.

Yeah if they would of put more effort into the actual fitness part it would of been nice, but they focused more on the party mode.

when you consider the price of gym classes to do Zumba Fitness, being able to do it in the home sounds cheap. of course, you don't have the chance to meet girls if you play it at home, but most of the people in these classes are moms trying to work off their baby fat or old people trying to stay in shape. my local 24 Hour fitness is advertising Zumba Fitness classes on their marquee. yes, the gamer in us want to be able to receive a score and compete against other people. but the point of Zumba Fitness is to use dancing to exercise.

I saw this Youtube vid from someone that bought the game. Looks interesting. I like dance games so down the line, I'll pick this up too.

Majesco has released a Title Update for the Zumba Fitness game as of December 8. Tutorials are now useful. Don't know what other fixes are in the update. Any owners with comments on the update?

Not yet! I'll have to pop it back in, although when I last played it, I really didn't have any issues with it, I just don't know the moves Tongue

I reaaaaally love this game. Don't worry about the moves, in the beginning you dont know them, but after some classes you'll get them. It can also help a lot by finishing the tutorials. The basic steps always come back Wink. Because i was ill for a very long time, i wanted to get more in shape. And it's really easy to catch up, even with ZERO experience. Now i'm in a pretty good shape, thanks to zumba. It's really enjoyable!

I'm on the fence about renting vs. buying this. I saw it at best buy for 25 I think. Renting a game can be around 10 bucks nowadays, so I might just buy it for the extra 15. I don't know. =/ I really wanted to give Zumba, in general, a chance.

Zumba is a great workout and it has online multiplayer so you can dance and chat with people.

Unfortunately, if you live on the West Coast and dance at night, there are virtually no people to dance with online. The best chances to have active dance classes for people on the West Coast is in the daytime which has the stay at home moms and the Europeans. Otherwise, add people to your friends list so that you have a stable group to dance with.
