Kinect has a lot more juice in it than you'd think!
Rare’s incubation director Nick Burton had a bit of a talk yesterday at the London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts. The big man behind Kinect Sports talked about all things Kinect, including how easy it is to play games with, how natural the controls feel, how he enjoys the numerous Kinect hacks that have been release and even said that a Halo kind of game controlled with Kinect would work!
But the most important thing he had to say was that at the moment Rare is only using about 10 to 15% of Kinect’s technical power. This is a very big revelation for us Kinect players! More info after the jump!
Our friends at Rare are doing a great job with their Kinect Sports game release, that’s been selling millions ever since its launch. Unfortunately, lay-offs at the company – that is part of Microsoft’s Game Studios – was still considered the best option in today’s economic climate.
Besides the lay-offs, a new studio director has also been appointed. Microsoft’s announced that they’ve placed Craig Duncan as Rare’s Senior Studio Director. Craig worked as an executive at both Midway and Codemasters before starting his job at Rare’s.
The British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) Video Games Awards Winners (wow, that’s a mouthful) were announced yesterday! The British equivalent of the Oscars thankfully has a category for video games and this year there were four Kinect games nominated.
Dance Central, Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and Kinectimals were all competing for the prestigious BAFTA best family game award, and one of them came out on top! Can you guess which one it is? Find out after the jump!
