The video tells us that its a unique lens attachment for Kinect. The lens allows two players to stand farther from each other at a distance that would normally only accomodate a single player. Once attached, gamers are able to play up to 40% closer to the Kinect sensor than before. The Zoom reduces the playspace needed for Kinect. The Zoom provides an optimal playing space allowing you and your friends to enjoy all your favorite Kinect experiences.

Ideal for dorm rooms or small apartments! Checkout the video for more info on Nyko’s latest Kinect peripheral for those suffering from too small a room to Kinect as though there’s no tomorrow:

Nyko Zoom solution

Product description

Specially-designed lenses in a simple clip-on accessory allows Kinect gaming in smaller living rooms and apartments by reducing the distance required for the Kinect to function properly by up to 40%. The Zoom requires no additional power or batteries and is compatible with any Kinect game for both single and multiplayer use.

Mind you, you need some more room on the sides! The lens simply bends the rays of light.

MagniEye’s solution

Even though that video looked very slick, earlier 123KINECT already revealed that The Zoom isn’t as unique as Nyko claims it to be. MagniEye (by Newbie Gaming) offers similar features:

  • Special magnifier lens brings in Kinect’s field of vision
  • Allows the Kinect to be used in much smaller sized rooms
  • Easy installation; no modification to your Kinect needed

Finally, I feel that devices light these demand some sort of review, as it’s very hard to tell if they really deliver what the promise. Even though time could be the major factor in this, why did Microsoft not put this in every Kinect from the get go if it works without problems? I still have to see it to believe it.
