The British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) Video Games Awards Winners (wow, that’s a mouthful) were announced yesterday! The British equivalent of the Oscars thankfully has a category for video games and this year there were four Kinect games nominated.

Dance Central, Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and Kinectimals were all competing for the prestigious BAFTA best family game award, and one of them came out on top! Can you guess which one it is? Find out after the jump!

And the BAFTA goes to…

Earlier this year we had our little own BAFTA kind of thing: the crew of 123Kinect came together and made a list of the top 5 Kinect games of 2010. Our list also included Dance Central, Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports (we left Kinectimals out which let to a furious debate), but we also included Your Shape and Sonic Free Riders. In the end we picked Kinect Sports as our number one Kinect game of 2010, mainly because of the insane amounts of fun we had (and still have) with this Kinect game.

So who did BAFTA pick as their winner in the family game category? Well the four above mentioned Kinect games were also competing with LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Toy Story 3 but in the end a Kinect game won! And funny thing… BAFTA also picked Kinect Sports!

Why did this Kinect game win?

So why did Kinect Sports win in the family category? Well I think it all has to do with the accessibility of the game. This is the family category so these must be games that can be enjoyed by young, old, very young and very old. And that’s exactly what Kinect Sports does! Everyone can jump into this game and immediately enjoy it! This also explains why there were four Kinect games nominated in this category: because of the Kinect sensor! The Kinect sensor is a revolutionary way of playing games and is accessible to a very wide audience!

So there you have it: Kinect Sports takes the crown and totally deserves it. But in my opinion the real family award goes to the Kinect sensor, for making games accessible to all audiences!

Do you agree with Kinect Sports winning? Or would you have rather seen another game win?
