I was actually searching for something else and came across this article posted last week. It states the NFL and the NFL’s Play 60 program has teamed up with Microsoft and announced the Xbox 360 and Kinect as the official sponsors for the league. From what the article states, it seems like they are going to be gearing towards the Play 60 program, which is just a program where kids work out for 60 minutes a day. You can read more about it on their website.

Play 60 and Xbox Kinect

According to the article, both sides had something to say. From Microsoft:

We are excited to be aligning with one of the world’s premier sports organizations and believe the Xbox 360 brand represents many of the same values as the NFL, including fun, fitness and great entertainment. We particularly look forward to the opportunity to work with an incredible program like NFL PLAY 60 and help inspire today’s youth.

- Dennis Durkin, corporate vice president and chief operating and financial officer of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business.

And from the NFL:

We are pleased to welcome Xbox 360 and Kinect to the NFL family. Fitness is core to our game, and we are looking forward to working with Kinect for Xbox 360 to evolve NFL PLAY 60 in new and innovative ways.

- Brian Rolapp, chief operating officer of NFL Media

Here’s one more blurb from the article:

As part of the new relationship with NFL PLAY 60, Kinect for Xbox 360 will integrate into NFL PLAY 60 events and programs at all levels. Kinect for Xbox 360 provides controller-free games and entertainment that uses your whole body to play. If you have to kick in the game, then kick. If you have to jump, then jump. Kinect offers a natural and interactive way for kids to get off the couch and have fun while meeting their 60 minutes of daily activity — particularly when it’s too cold or too hot to be outside.

This is all speculation based on my own account so believe what you will, but I can only imagine the slew of mini-games that could be included if it will be released to the general public. My question is, if EA holds onto the NFL exclusiveness, how is Microsoft going to use anything NFL related? Kids will obviously want to work out with their idols, I would think. If anything comes out of this, we’ll be sure to let you know!
