Mass Effect 3 was announced to have some rather interesting Kinect Voice Commands support (read all about it here), but since voice commands are possible on any platform (you can hook up a microphone to a PC or Playstation 3) we didn’t think this option would come exclusively to Kinect, now we know better!

Voice Commands are a hardware thing

So, as it turns out Voice Commands are exclusive to the Xbox version of Mass Effect 3, and will only work if you have a Kinect sensor. Why is this you ask? Well Kinect is doing the actual voice recognition, not Mass Effect itself!

Kinect is indeed a very powerful piece of hardware, and it’s making a very easy for developers to add ‘fancy’ stuff like Voice Recognition, without having to deal with programming it all from scratch. Go Kinect!
