The Electronic Entertainment Expo of 2011 is close, very close! The E3 of 2011 officially starts in two days, but tomorrow Microsoft is already having its pre-E3 press event! We here at 123Kinect.com can’t wait for all the cool Kinect stuff that is going to be shown and of course we have our own predictions of what Microsoft is going to show.
We just wanted to share these predictions with you, and we would also like to know what you think of them. Other than that we have set up an easy way to navigate all the different E3 news to make it simple and straightforward to get to the E3 news that matters most to you! See the bottom of this post on how this works!
So without further delay, here are our predictions for the E3 of 2011!
Kinect Accuracy Update (Kinect 2.0)
The Kinect Accuracy Update will (if it’s true) be the most important thing Microsoft can do for its Kinect sensor. We recently dug up more info on this update and it seems that it is actually going to happen! The update will basically make the Kinect sensor better, a lot better! The update will allow Kinect to do finger tracking, track you skeleton even better and will allow for face recognition! This update it crucial for the future of Kinect and will give game developers all the tools to create more innovative games!
This is really just pure speculation, but after the amount of hacks we saw that used the Wiimote and Kinect to create a truly amazing game experience we actually think it will be a wise step for Microsoft to combine the power of Kinect with a simple one-handed controller. We actually have a bit of evidence to back up this prediction and you can read it in this article!
Avatar Kinect (you know, the immersive Kinect chat program) must be completed already or is at least very close to completion. The program was rumored to have a release date of a few weeks back, but since it didn’t release we think it will be officially released during the E3 2011!
The Kinect SDK
The Kinect SDK will allow everyone with a bit of programming experience to create Kinect enabled games and application for Windows (and hopefully also for the Xbox itself via XNA). The SDK was announced quite a while back and we actually already saw a demo of an application that was made with it. We think the E3 would be a perfect way to officially release the Kinect SDK, and because the E3 is all about games I actually think they will throw in XNA support just to make it even more awesome!
Xbox Live Diamond and Kinect
We predict that Xbox Live Diamond (read about it here) is going to happen. Moreover, we think that Kinect will be its main method of interaction! Kinect is the perfect way to control everything on your TV, especially if you otherwise need to use 5+ remote controls for all the different services and set-top boxes. We predict Kinect is going to play a huge role here!
Kinect Voice Control Update
There are strong indications that the Voice Control System that Kinect makes possible is going to be updated. As for now it’s only working in the US and the UK. We think that this E3 will see that a lot of other countries will get added to this list, as well as the inclusion of new voice commands! More info on this topic can be found here.
A whole bunch of new Kinect games
Ok, this first one is not really a prediction because we all know this is fact, but still, to us this is one of the most important things to Kinect. We already posted an extensive article on all the Kinect games that might be shown at the E3, for more information you can refer back to that article.
How to follow the E3 news?
Eagle eyed visitors might have spotted this already, but we have added an E3 2011 specific menu to the top navigation bar. The sub-menus have these predictions among them and as we will write news on the E3 we will categorize them into those categories. This means that if you are looking for anything specific about the E3 you can just look right there in the menu. Check out the screenshot below on how it looks!
So what do you think about these predictions, which ones do you agree with and which ones you don’t. Let us know in the comments!
